Earlier this month, altafiber announced expansion plans to reach 400,000 locations outside its incumbent territory, building fiber across Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
VP of corporate development, Mark Fahner, noted that "altafiber currently has well over 200,000" passings in progress though not all of those have been completed. There is no specific timeline for the 400,00 out of footprint target.
altafiber is looking at both rural and suburban communities for further expansion. Fahner noted that “It’s really opportunistic as much as anything, where you know the environment’s right and we like to build tight relationships with the communities."
In the past year, public-private partnerships have enabled altafiber to cover 160,000 addresses including locations in Ohio’s Butler, Warren, and Greene Counties, as well as the city of Dublin. Most recently altafiber revealed 13 new markets that it will expand to in 2024. Most of the locations will be in Ohio and one in Aurora, Indiana.
