# Transforming Cincinnati Into a Smart City

Imagine this: a city where all children have equal access to Internet resources to learn in and out of the classroom, a city where adults can access online job training, and city, county, state and federal resources, all in the palm of their hand... A city where everyone is connected to the health resources that can improve their quality of life.

Safer streets, a growing economy, thriving neighborhoods, innovative government; this is what being a Smart City is about.

Many cities struggle with how to approach their Smart City initiatives: What are best practices? How do we fund? Where do we start? What happens if we don’t change and adapt? From Covington to Fairborn, and even in Canada, altafiber has implemented a variety of Smart City initiatives. While each city is different, the process is similar. Build a foundation of fiber and Wi-Fi, then prioritize and implement the Smart City technologies critical to the city’s progress.

Since 2010, altafiber has invested nearly one billion dollar in building our Fioptics network, which now covers nearly 70% of Greater Cincinnati. Our forecasted growth will have 90% of the greater Cincinnati region covered with our Fioptics network by 2022. Fiber is a future-proof asset which allows altafiber to manage, deliver and maintain Gigabit Internet speeds.

Most recently, altafiber is lighting up the city of Covington, KY, with Fioptics free Wi-Fi for all people in the city. Bringing this service to the city will allow residents and visitors alike to access high-speed Internet while out and about, enhancing daily interactions and experiences throughout the city.

In honor of expanding the reach of our Smart City initiatives to Covington, come celebrate with! Join the celebration at Park and Court Streets in Roebling Point as altafiber launches free Wi-Fi for the city of Covington, on Friday, June 8th, from 4 – 7 p.m. And what better way to celebrate than to take that free Wi-Fi for a spin. Enjoy a gaming experience and live demonstrations. Plus, enjoy food, drinks and the chance to win event tickets and giveaways!
