Black History Month

Black History Month is an annual observance each February to honor the legacy, contributions, and historical culture of African Americans. There are some great opportunities in Greater Cincinnati to learn more and support Black-owned businesses all year long.

Activities in Cincinnati

The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center is celebrating by offering programs that include film screenings, an educator workshop, and a discussion on voter advocacy. A few programs to name are Is That Black Enough for You?!?, Why Kids Need Truthful History Classes, and gOD-talk. The Freedom Center is also offering free admission Sunday, February 18, 2025. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $5 for Freedom Center members.

Visit the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and Museum and take a self-guided tour to explore artifacts and exhibit elements significant to African American history. The Hall of Fame and Museum is open 10 am-5 pm, Tuesday-Sunday.

Visit the Harriet Beecher Stowe House. Harriet Beecher Stowe lived in Cincinnati during the formative years that led to writing the anti-slavery novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin. You can schedule a visit or take a virtual tour to learn more about the author, the Underground Railroad, and the historic site that was listed in the Green Book in the 1930s and 40s.
