      Community unites for Goshen relief

Posted by Shayna F. on Jul 20, 2022 10:00:00 AM

When devastation hits near the Cincinnati region, community support is always close by. A tornado on July 6, 2022, tore through Goshen and its neighboring towns. This left many without power, and some without homes at all. Fortunately, no one was severely hurt; however, these communities will be recovering for months to come.

altafiber recently launched the Bell Charitable Foundation (BCF) with the intention to raise funds and provide support to organizations that are making a positive impact. altafiber and the Bell Charitable Foundation hosted a telethon on July 8, 2022, to raise funds for the Goshen community. With the help of FOX19, the coverage lasted hours, with around 500 callers who donated to the cause. This event raised $54,000. This donation was then matched by the Bell Charitable Foundation, resulting in a total of $104,000 going to towards Goshen disaster relief.

The main way this funding is serving Goshen citizens is through Meals on Wheels, a nonprofit organization that primarily provides home delivered meals to seniors in the community. Although not traditionally used for disaster relief, Meals on Wheels was ready to help. Volunteers mobilized quickly and have been providing boxes of shelf-stable meals which can feed families for up to a week. Their efficiency and determination in this effort has been inspiring, and we are thrilled to be able to support their work. United Way of Greater Cincinnati is also doing its part in helping the Goshen community by contacting other nonprofits in the area to assist them in serving the community's needs. A portion of the telethon funds will go to the United Way team in Goshen, as well.
